GORGEOUS COFFEE TABLE BOOK

Founded in 1870 in the historic centre of Rio de Janeiro, Granado, Brazil's most traditional apothecary, is celebrating its 150th anniversary and launching the first book on its history. From the very beginning, its founder, the Portuguese José Antonio Coxito Granado, manipulated local plants and flowers to develop natural alternatives to the remedies of the time.

These creations quickly revolutionised pharmaceutical products 'made in Brazil' and won over illustrious clients such as Emperor D. Pedro II, who conferred on Granado the title of Official Pharmacy of the Imperial Family of Brazil in 1880.

Remaining faithful to its founding mission and its pledge of tradition, quality and efficiency, Granado continues to seduce its faithful public with a wide range of cosmetics and fine perfumery while carefully preserving the values and history of its Archives. In a text animated by more than 200 images, the book recounts the triumphant transformation of the brand and captures the vivid colours of Brazilian flora, the botanical environment of the Pharmacy and the exuberant aesthetics of the city of Rio from the beginning of the last century to the present day.

Written by Hermés Galvão, prefaced by Bruno Astuto and edited by Assouline, the book is a journey through the history of Granado, which intertwines with the development of Old Rio and the pharmaceutical industry in Brazil.
